stranded passengers. the pain may not be over for all of the travelers. also, we'll be watching the casey anthony trial. she will be back in court facing murder charges. we are keeping an eye what's happening outside, but also, have you been seeing what's happening outside the courtroom? and have you seen this picture yet? in the middle of the vancouver riot this week, what in the world is that couple doing in the middle of the street? from the cnn center in atlanta, georgia, i am tj holmes. a couple of travel stories to tell you about. if you are flying today, a lot of people are, you might be delayed because of a lingering computer glitch. they say it is over. united airlines is who i am talking about. they say they fixed the glitch. the system went down several

hours. thousands of people were effected. some may still be at the airport this morning waiting to get out. united tried to process everybody by hand while the system was down. exactly how does that work out? >> this has been horrific. we are hungry, we are tired, we want to get home. they won't give us any answers. people in line, get us home. you can't, it is impossible. >> here is the statement from united airlines. they apologizes for the disruption caused to travelers at affected airports and is reaccommodating travelers where necessary. they also waived change fees for the stranded passengers. meanwhile, the other story that got our attention, a man in this country illegally gets clearance to work for an airline. police in miami say that's exactly what happened at american eagle airlines. you're seeing the man there, 38-year-old, now charged with

stealing another man's identity to work as a flight attendant for the airline. he was arrested yesterday after the flight returned from london. passengers as you can imagine shocked to learn their flight attendant was in fact an imposter. >> how do they do that? >> how can the company, a big company like that, you know, they should check that before. >> miami police say he is from guy and a and used the identity of a new york man when he applied to work at the airline. a lot more coming to that. and in south korea, a pair of soldiers fired on a flight heading to south korea from china. this was a commercial airline. fired their rifles, south korean military force says they thought it was a north korean plane invading their air space. the plane was hit because it was nowhere near close enough to be

hit. and karzai tells a youth group that washington is involved in peace talks with the taliban. u.s. officials could not be reached immediately for comment. the guardian newspaper reported that they want u.n. sanctions against 18 taliban members removed. president obama expected to announce plans for troop withdrawal next month. cnn is checking with officials in washington and will get you the latest as we get it. congresswoman gabrielle giffords is back home in tucson, arizona this morning, for the first time since she was shot there back in january. giffords and her husband, astronaut mark kelly, spending the weekend with family. giffords as you know was shot in the head during a meet and greet with constituents in a supermarket parking lot. she was released from a houston hospital earlier this week. her husband put out a statement saying we've been dreaming of this trip for some time. gabby misses tucson very much

and her doctors have said that returning to her hometown could play an important role in her recovery. testimony scheduled to start in the casey anthony trial this morning. her attorneys have not said if they plan to put her on the stand in her own defense. now, while a lot of people are keeping a close eye on what's happening inside the courtroom, we're also keeping an eye on what's happening outside. this was outside yesterday, a mini brawl broke out. this is in the line for people trying to get some of the coveted seats, about 50 seats, to get in and watch the trial. we have seen scenes like this every day, people out there at 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 in the morning.

we will have more on the case in about 30 minutes. inmates, including a child murderer and mob boss, are testifying in italian courtroom today to try to help american amanda knox. she's serving a 26 year sentence for killing her house mate. five inmates taking the stand today, expecting to say they heard someone else in prison confess to the crime and that knox was not involved. president obama teeing off in a few hours with house speaker john boehner. they call this golf summit a chance to get together, swing the club rgs possibly talk about the debt ceiling among other things. brianna keeler has the story on today's big matchup. >> reporter: it is pretty twoerd. today, amidst negotiations over spending cuts and raising the

debt ceiling and one day before speaker boehner says president obama will be breaking the law for not seeking congressional authorization to have the u.s. military involved in libya, these two men will hit the links. they may not be on the same course politically, but president obama and house speaker john boehner both spend a lot of time golfing. the president even takes practice swings at work from time to time. this one was before a 2009 event in california, and boehner's famous tan, he says, from hours spent golfing. appropriately, the president a lefty, speaker, right-handed. oddly, he putts left. some common ground perhaps? for the first time saturday, they will be playing golf together. the interest in this game is intense, at least among us reporters. jay carney has been answering questions about the round more than a week. >> i have heard no trash talk from the president on this. he feels it is a very useful

thing to do. this is an opportunity that i think has value beyond the game. >> reporter: that's because the white house and congress are involved in negotiations to increase the debt ceiling before august 2nd. representing the white house in those talks, vice president joe biden. he's also the president's partner on saturday. >> i think because he is vice president of the united states. >> reporter: doesn't hurt he is a six handicap according to golf digest. president obama is a 17. that's not terrible, but he probably won't stand up so well to boehner. he is an 8, good enough to play with tiger woods in a pro-am two years ago. his partner, john kasich, governor of ohio and former member of the budget committee could be his secret weapon. he hasn't released his handicap.

what will this game really accomplish? the speaker has a proposal. >> somebody said well, you know, the president wants strokes from boehner, boehner ought to say to the president, we have all the strokes you want, it will cost you a trillion dollars a stroke. i thought it was a very good idea. >> reporter: seems the president won't be taking boehner up with the offer. >> i think i can say with great confidence they will not wrap up the 18th hole and come out and say "we have a deal." so maybe no deal, but who will win. the white house may reveal the scores after the round. my money is on the vice president because an employee at a local golf course in d.c. says he has been on the driving range twice this week, tj. >> all right. thanks. and a lot of folks may be listening to the news. stop and look at the screen a moment. did you see this picture? can you see what's going on here? do you see the couple laying in

the middle of the street? but they are also laying in the middle of a riot. this is in vancouver wednesday. this couple is caught laying in the middle of the street and it looks like they are making out, all right? needs more explanation, but the riots were after the can uks lost in the stanley cup final. this has gone viral. you're seeing scott jones and his girlfriend alex thomas, they got caught up in it. listen to this. >> they were trying to get us to move. i don't know why we weren't being aggressive towards them, eventually they passed over us, that's when we were on the ground. she was a bit hysterical afterwards, i was trying to calm her down. >> people will be able to see it is a moment that happened to be on camera and that it's not embarrassing at all, it is sexually a really beautiful

today and tomorrow. many people have been evacuated, dozens of homes destroyed. let me bring in reynolds wolf. you have been saying quite some time forget about rain, but what kind of relief could they be getting in arizona from winds? >> unfortunately through the weekend, looks like winds remain high. at the same time, humidity will be very low. it will be balancing. they are not the only ones battling the blaze out west. we have issues in south georgia. we have some video we are showing you from that part of the world. it is rough conditions there, same story, low humidity. at the same point, strong winds, and what they could use is rainfall, what's been unfortunate, farther north in atlanta, we had decent rainfall the last couple days, no such luck for parts of south georgia. let's show you what else is happening. we have tornado warnings in portions of the midwest. severe thunderstorm watch indicated by this box here.

as we zoom in west of st. louis, near st. charles county on i-70, a couple of tornado warnings popped up. no visual confirmation, just rotation has been detected by doppler radar. they are keeping a sharp eye on this. this is moving eastward on parts of i-70, possibly right through st. charles, confluence of the missouri and minneapolis rivers. could be moving through st. louis in 30 to 45 minutes. meanwhile, seeing the possibility of storms in parts of the central plains, upper midwest and into the ohio valley. as we mentioned with tj moments ago, the fire threat exists towards parts of the four corners. as we wrap up things quickly, temperatures overwhelming in texas. 103 for dallas and el paso. 58 in seattle, 65 in los angeles, new york and boston, 80s and 70s, washington, d.c., 89, atlanta with 89, finally catching a break in terms of

well, at 20 minutes past the hour on cnn saturday morning, take a look at business news. investors keeping a close eye on the federal reserve next week and the plan it has. alison kosik has a story of pandora. >> reporter: it was a roller coaster week for stocks as investors wrestled with economic concerns at home and abroad. pandora became the latest internet name to begin trading at the new york stock exchange. shares surged after the wednesday ipo. but enthusiasm wore off as they ended the week well below the offering price. pandora never turned a profit and relies heavily on advertising revenues. >> thanks, allison.

new numbers confirm what most already know. college is too expensive. according to the college board, tuition and fees at public universities have more than doubled since 1988, while middle class incomes have been stagnant. department of education says a growing number of middle class students are opting for two year programs instead of traditional four year degrees. that may be a good short term financial plan, but could hurt earnings potential in the long term. >> the federal reserve is scheduled to meet this week. no major changes are expected, but investors want to know how the fed plans to tackle the slow economic recovery. job growth has slowed, prices have risen. the fed has no announced plans for more stimulus to reverse the trends once the current program ends in less than two weeks. we know the market will be watching this decision closely. we'll follow it all on cnn

25 minutes past the hour on cnn saturday morning. ex-convicts, that's the georgia governor's solution to shortage of farm workers. a tough law goes into effect july 1st might create a shortage of immigrant workers, so governor nathan deal wants agriculture and correction officials to connect unemployed

probationers with jobs. they are getting only 30% of the workers they need. not all farmers are sold on the idea of hiring people on probation. >> i wouldn't want anybody on my farm, you know, that was dangerous. >> the pugh research center say there are 25,000 immigrants in georgia. the defense taking a swing at the prosecution's case in the case of casey anthony. that's the drama inside. this is the drama outside the courtroom. a mini brawl breaks out because these folks want to get a seat inside. but now, there are some new seating rules. that story next.

but look at what's happening outside the courtroom. this was yesterday. fist fights breaking out. what are they fighting over here? seats, courtroom seats. a lot of people as you know have been lining up early, trying to get about 50 coveted seats that the public is allowed to have. now they have changed the rules on when people can line up. you have to line up the day before to get tickets and at specific times, so they hope this will end some of the ugly scenes outside. meanwhile, inside, bugs have become a big focus of the trial. gary tuftman has more. >> reporter: his testimony was most unusual. >> what i did, i didn't have them killed myself, placed them in the trunk of the car. >> reporter: this is expert tim huntington, an expert her attorneys hope can convince the jury of the shocking theory.

they say caylee drowned in the pool and claimed the man that found her remains got the body earlier, tampered with it and placed it in the woods before it was discovered. his name, roi kronk, former utility leader. they hope to convince the jury that the duct tape found on the face may have been placed there by kronk, not casey. the entomologist says experiment with pigs led to early colonizing flies that were missing from caylee anthony's body. >> there's no good reason at the scene why they shouldn't be there. >> and what does that tell you? >> what that indicates is that the body was moved or transported from some other location to the site where it was discovered. >> reporter: it sounded like what casey anthony and her team wanted to hear, that the body was transferred to the woods weeks or months after the little

girl died. then the prosecution swung into action. >> do you mean to suggest to this jury that this body was fully skeletonized in another location and then moved? >> nose, i did not say that. >> the prosecution's theory is that casey anthony murdered her body, put the body in the kara few days, then disposed of it in the woods. before jeff ashton drilled on that, he made fun of the pig in the car which he says is a bad comparison with a little girl in the trunk in florida. >> why didn't you wrap your pigs in a blanket. i promised i'd say that, judge. but seriously, why didn't you wrap the pigs in a blanket. >> thank you for saying that. we needed it right now. >> laughter erupted in the courtroom. what some may consider a morbid joke. even casey anthony laughed, then covered her mouth with her hand. it was the beginning of a larger point. you would agree that this is not

a fair representation of what caylee's body or what the trunk would have looked like with caylee's body in it because she was wrapped in a blanket, two bags and a laundry bag. you agree this is not an accurate description, right? >> if you're looking at the final product of decomposition, then that would be correct. >> that's not testimony the defense wants to hear from its own witness. but other testimony was even more damaging. >> so how many days is it that you feel at this temperature we are experiencing now that that body was someplace else before it went to that location? it is around 95 degrees today as i understand. >> probably around two to three or four days. >> only two, three, four days before caylee's body ends up in the woods which is not what the defense wants the jury to think.

taking a look at some of the stories making headlines. angelina jolie is in turkey to bring attention to refugee camps there. she's a united nations goodwill ambassador and praised turkey for taking in close to 10,000 syrians that crossed the border to escape on-going violence in their country. >> the turkish government and red cross have been extraordinary in generosity and they are very organized and we're so grateful to them. they also said they are not forcing anyone back, they will keep the border open. this is saving lives and making a difference to all of these children and their families, so we're very, very grateful to them. >> a senior obama administration official says the u.s. is collecting information on possible war crimes carried out by the syrian government on protesters. in saudi arabia, women are challenging the kingdom's long

time ban on driving a car. this was prompted by ticketing of a female motorist last month, similar to other recent protests in the middle east and this one started online. an american soldier captured in afghanistan in 2009 has been promoted a second time while in captivity. the military says bowe bergdahl was given the rank of sergeant. they traveled to his hometown of hailey, idaho to deliver the promotion to his parents. you want to survive the apocalypse? we've got the solution to how to do that. you just need to move to a particular place, a village, in france. it is the place to be when the world is supposed to end next december. we will take you there next. with diabetes, it's tough to keep life balanced.

37 minutes past the hour. look at this severe weather that hit colorado eastern plains yesterday. look and listen. all right. this is highway 71 you were seeing there, people going along rather slowly. reported two inches of hail. don't usually hear hail talked about, usually snow or rain in inches, but hail, too. >> proof in the pudding there. you see it, there it is, it is documented. amazing stuff. hail is not unusual in colorado. what is unusual in parts of colorado, especially near steamboat springs, have 60 inches on the high peaks still there. half the country is roasting

with record temperatures and have snow in some places. this morning, we had rough storms, couple tornados in missouri, not near joplin but st. louis. we zoom in on a couple of key locations on the radar. head first to missouri. you can see a line of storms, pretty intense, severe thunderstorm watch also in effect. there's a little comma shape, that's indication of strong wind coming in behind it, bowing effect of the storms. couple of tornado warnings we've shown you, from st. charles, three in fact, no visual confirmation. obviously kind of dark for this time. if you happen to be in st. charles, even towards st. louis and to the west, maybe a few flashes of lightning in the sky. all of this should be there in the next ten to twenty minutes, st. charles first, then to places like st. louis and a few other spots in illinois before the day is out. we're going to see more of that

from st. louis back to cincinnati and indianapolis, maybe as far south as parts of atlanta today. three days of rain wouldn't be bad. people in the southeast wouldn't complain about that. in the central plains, storms are a possibility. fires in the four corners still there. low humidity and strong winds and temperatures have been insane. speaking of the heat, look at the record highs we had yesterday. lar aid oh, wichita falls, san angelo, oklahoma city, shreveport, all over 100 degrees. mercury should top out at 103 in dallas. humidity may feel warm, not as humid there as houston at 98 degrees. 103 in el paso. 93 albuquerque, 82 in chicago. chance of storms, bulk of rainfall farther south in places like louisville, kentucky, and liksing ton. 92 in tampa, back to the west

coast, san francisco and los angeles mainly in the mid-60s. should be a beautiful day. tj, back to you. >> appreciate you. we will turn to the video we saw this week, still dealing with the fallout from vancouver. riots broke out. can you believe this? this is after they lost game seven of the stanley cup playoffs. 100 people were arrested but not before they did this damage. turned over cars, started fires out there. a number of people had to go to the hospital with stab wounds. there were big screens set up outside, specifically so thousands of people could gather outside and watch the game in the street. maybe not the best idea because after they lost, this is what happened. police are asking anyone with pictures of the riots on cell phones to turn over the pictures so they can identify rioters. there's also a facebook page set up so people can post those

videos and pictures. and new video from west palm beach. look closely. this shows a police officer you see there, being dragged behind a motorcycle that he has stopped for going more than 110 miles per hour on the highway. you see him there, ends up bouncing back up, he has been dragged on the back of the bike there. this happened in late march, police are just now releasing the video. comes from police cruiser dash cam. the officer is 62 years old. he was okay. listen to this. only missed two shifts. police were able to catch up with the driver a short time later. as you see it here, you know what you're looking for, you can see him on the back, he dragged, let go, and pops back up. only missed a couple of shifts. to other video. you may have seen this. this got a lot of attention online. a little guy at a zoo in california springs, up close and personal with the lion. one of the lions plays and toys

hours. witnesses say it started after the man chased his girlfriend and her mother down the street with a knife. we turn now to maryland. some kids will be allowed to serve lemonade near the u.s. open after all. officials in montgomery county shut down their lemonade stand on thursday and fined parents some $500. police and authorities say the stand violated several traffic and safety regulations. but after the story kiepd of got out, they had a change of heart and waived the 5 hundred dollar fine. had to reopen 100 feet away from the intersection where it was set up before. in tennessee, an anonymous donor has given almost 13,000 vintage comic books to goodwill. some of these things date back

the school said no. now a tv series is devoting an episode to her story. hello to you all from the cnn center in atlanta, georgia, this is cnn saturday morning, i am tj holmes. reynolds wolf will be along in a moment. for a lot of you flying today, you may be delayed because of lingering effects of a computer glitch at united airlines. the system went down several hours as night. thousands of people were affected. some passengers may still be waiting at airports to get out. united tried to process everybody by hand while the system was down. so how did that work out? >> this has been horrific. we are hungry, we are tired, we want to get home. he won't give us any answers. you have a thousand people in line. how do you process all those people and get us home. you can't, it is impossible. >> united apologized for the disruption caused to travelers at affected airports and is

reaccommodating travelers where necessary. they also waived change fees for stranded passengers. a man illegally in this country, shouldn't be able to get on board a plane, but certainly shouldn't be able to get clearance to actually work for an airline. police in miami say that's exactly what's happened at american eagle airlines. the man, you're seeing him now, 38-year-old joe fan porter was arrested and charged with stealing another man's identity to work as a flight attendant for the airlines. he was arrested after his flight returned from london. passengers and probably you were shocked to learn a flight attendant was an imposter. >> how come the company, a big company like that, you know they should check that before. >> miami police say border is from guy and a, used the toinlt of a new york man when he

applied to work at the airline. and developing news out of afghanistan this morning where the afghan president, karzai, tells a youth group that washington is involved in peace talks with the taliban. u.s. officials could not be reached immediately for comment. the guardian newspaper reporting earlier this month that the u.s. and britain want sanctions against 18 former taliban members removed. president obama is expected to announce plans for troop withdrawals next month. we will get you more on this as we get it. and british nationals are being told to get out of syria this morning. this comes from the british foreign office. syria has been the site of deadly confrontations during anti-government protesters and the military warned citizens to get out of syria back in april. meanwhile, angelina jolie is at a refugee camp in turkey. she serves as a united nations ambassador. she praises turkey for helping

nations camp. people in southern sudan voted to become an independent country, that will happen july 9th. border disputes caused mass exodus. 100,000 have fled areas where northern troops have taken control. there may be movement on the diplomatic front, but still it is a desperate situation for a lot of people there. meanwhile, back here, congressman gabrielle giffords is back home in tucson, arizona this morning for the first time since she was shot there back in january. giffords and her husband, astronaut mark kelly, spending the weekend there with family. giffords as you know was shot in the head during a meet and greet with constituents in a supermarket parking lot in january. was just released from houston area hospital earlier this week. her husband releasing a statement saying we have been dreaming of this trip for some time. gabby misses tucson very much and her doctors said returning to her hometown could play an important role in her recovery. casey anthony will be back in court in a couple hours from now. testimony scheduled to start in

her murder trial at 9:00 eastern time. she's accused of killing her two-year-old daughter. anthony's attorneys haven't said if they plan to put her on the stand in her own defense. but this is the drama that continues to unfold outside the courtroom. a little brawl broke out in the line. these folks lined up, trying to get in. many have been lining up in the overnight hours, trying to get a few of the coveted tickets to get in to be part of the trial, see the trial. there are new rules in place to try to keep this from happening again. it requires that court watcher wannabes line up the day before for tickets to the trial. they have to line up at specific times. more on the case coming your way in about 30 minutes. also, if you are listening to the news now, stop and look at the tv for a moment. have you seen this picture? this is from the vancouver riots wednesday. you see the riots happening all

around these folks, and you see a couple laying in the middle of the street. they got caught up in the riots after the hockey team lost the stanley cup. this photo has gone viral. it is scott jones and his girlfriend, alex thomas. they say they were caught between the police and the rioters. >> started beating us with the shields, trying to get us to move. i don't know why we weren't being aggressive towards them, eventually they passed over us, and that's when we were on the ground. i was just -- she was a bit hysterical afterwards obviously and i was trying to calm her down. >> people were able to see it is just a moment that happened to be on camera, and that it's not embarrassing at all, it is sexually really a beautiful shot. >> it is a beautiful shot. i love it. it needs some explanation here. what you see highlighted there, she was actually injured in the

riots. they didn't just lay down on the ground and decide to start making out in the middle of a riot. she was actually injured and her boyfriend just laid down next to her to comfort her at the time. the camera catches the shot of them when he actually gave her a kiss on the cheek, just tried to calm her down because she was hysterical. as we put that picture, you have to love that picture, put it back up for me. seems like the young man according to his mom may be a bit of a romantic. his mom telling the newspaper he is a bit of a dreamer, he wouldn't have even known there was a riot going on around him possibly. a lot of people saw it on the internet, it went viral, got passed around. looks like two people are laying there making out. it was a dangerous and serious situation for the young lady hurt there. he was just trying to comfort her, gave her a quick kiss on the cheek, and that is the image that has gone around the world. at eight minutes past the

acres, but you're seeing video from another part of the state now, the southeastern corner of the state along the mexican border. crews there fighting three different fires. also in the southern part of georgia. 225,000 acres burned in fires in parts of this state. wildfire officials blame lightning for sparking fires in three counties near the florida border. reynolds here to talk about rain. is rain a possibility in either of those places? >> best chance in south georgia. that being said, the odds of it happening not good. north georgia perhaps, but definitely seeing rainfall across parts of the midwest into the ohio valley. we have a couple of tornado warnings this morning, thunderstorm watch in effect for parts of missouri, but the entire area is a place of potential trouble, especially with the ohio valley. flashing flooding a certainty. we are seeing rain develop and move over some of the same areas again and again. lexington may get flash flooding, minneapolis same, perhaps st. louis before the day
